Since 1974, Restaurant Management Company (RMC) has been a Yum! Brands casual dining franchisee with Pizza Hut as its flagship restaurant. Other concepts include KFC, Long John Silver’s and A&W. As a family-run business, RMC is actively involved in restaurants, real estate, and chasing opportunities. Operations for the company exist in 9 states and employ nearly 5,000 individuals.
RMC was founded by Hal W. McCoy, Sr., who continues to contribute leadership and vision to the company. Hal W. McCoy II oversees day-to-day operations and is the mastermind behind the company’s technological advancements. Hal Sr. and Hal II are recognized figureheads at Pizza Hut, Inc., as both have held positions on the Board of Directors, Hal Sr. has been inducted into the Hall of Fame, and Hal II currently presides over the Pizza Hut BOD and tech committee. The McCoy family knows the restaurant business!
RMC has always prided itself in 1) seeking out the best and brightest minds across our organizations, and 2) leveraging technology to bring as much pertinent information to our decision sets as possible.
In 2005, some of those minds got together and brainstormed what was possible in the form of a company-wide analytics and collaboration tool. One guy talked about numbers so fast it made our heads hurt. A certifiable lunatic dressed in a spider costume preached the improbable about what this tool could look like and what it could do. You can imagine what the tech guys were doing… running the other way with their hair on fire, muttering words like “crazy” and “impossible.”
Fortunately the naysayers were wrong. We leveraged our talented minds (yes, even the spider’s) and built the foundation of something that was neither improbable nor impossible. This would be a tool that would address real restaurant business management issues. It would be easy to use, easy to understand, and, at its core, would be a straightforward set of ideas that anyone could grasp. Once “MyBizView” was finally constructed, everyone agreed it was a pretty effective tool, yet some imagined that it had potential to be even more.
You see, business associates had always noted Hal II’s exceptional ability to deal with numbers. But at meetings the “Halculator” was answering questions even faster than before and people were noticing. “What are you looking at?” they would inquire, wondering what the funky screen on his laptop was. Hal II had more information at his fingertips than others could gather after days of number-crunching.
As time went on, the inquiries from other franchisees kept coming in and we started kicking around the idea of taking it outside of RMC. In 2006 we tested it for other franchise organizations and what we witnessed was shocking. Not only were they having the same revelations about their businesses that we had, they were adjusting their executions accordingly. They realized we offered a great tool at every level to help them achieve big gains in efficiencies and even performance to their bottom lines!
Since 2006 we’ve converted those test companies to committed customers and we’ve added even more clients. We’ve aligned ourselves with more point-of-sale systems, hired more people, and developed more user tools and reports. We’ve got lots of exciting developments in the pipeline and more ideas to talk about soon! In the meantime, take a look around the site and see what you think. It’s a powerful web we’ve woven to catch our opportunities… visit the Info Request page to set up a demo and give us a chance to help you catch some of yours!
